Boycotting brands and companies complicit in genocide—what's the point, exactly? And how can I participate without having to empty my entire home? Your questions answered:
As an economist in Israel who works tirelessly with both the Arab Israeli and Palestinian communities, I can say two things:
1. BDS initiatives actually harm Palestinians, Arab Israelis, and the wider Muslim world
2. BDS initiatives are almost always driven by false premises and/or lies, and all of them have complete lack of any knowledge of how the global economy works.
I have started to unpack every single one of these initiatives an post them on Substack. I encourage you to read and share widely in order to understand how these initiatives actually play out:
I read it. I worked for Starbucks. Your argument doesn't hold water. You didn't unpack anything - you simply reinforced an existing bias. So as a journalist, I'll do it for you. As a CEO, he's fine. As an organisation, Starbucks is fine. As a person, he, and apparently you as well, continues to think that only Israel has a right to defend itself; and continues to pretend the Israel institution has not been THE perpetrator of hate and injustice all along. And as a business person, Schultz has invested a significant amount to the Israel economy - an indiscriminate killing machine. And don't speak on Muslims - this isn't about religion and you know it. - Hidayah
I don't think only Israel has a right to defend itself. I think every country has a right to defend itself.
I also disagree wit you that Israel is the sole perpetrator. Answer me these two things:
If Israel offered peace 6 times to the Palestinians, why did the Palestinians refuse every time? Israel has been the sole perpetrator of peace in the region - it is the sole entity that has initiated peace with it's neighbors. Two of them: Jordan and Egypt agreed, the others have not.
This is fact.
So it seems to me that Israel is historically, and factually the only perpetrator of trying to make peace, and the Palestinians are the only one who have consistently chosen war.
Then let’s just agree to disagree. You stand by your beliefs and I stand by mine, and we will see how this resolves itself, if not in our lifetime, then in the next.

This is the first one, on Starbucks:
